I have felt like the only person who doesn't care about space for years. So what if there is liquid water on Mars? Do you know where I'm sure there is liquid water? Right down the street in the river flowing through my city, and right outside the porch of my cottage on Lake Nipissing. I can't say this without sounding like the biggest Green person ever, but why the hell can't we care about the water we do have rather than looking everywhere else to figure out if we can create a new home. I am also a huge sci-fi fan, but the reality is that I like sci-fi not so much for the exploration and the discovery but because it is a safe, not real, canvas on which we can ask questions about our own lives. I long ago came to accept the fact that I am not like other people and I'm okay with my lack of care for space, but it's nice to hear when someone else feels the same way.
