Your comment about Eastbound and Down immediately made me go and listen to some Jerry Reed after the podcast and it reminded me of something that happened to me a few weeks back on my family holiday road trip out to Banff, Alberta. As you may recall, the main plot of Smokey & the Bandit is taking Coors across the state line where it couldn't be bought. We went to a dinner theatre in Canmore and were seated next to a couple from Dallas. The gentleman (who was in his late fifties) told me about going to spring break in Florida when he was in college. He would buy a bunch of cases of Coors and take it with him and sell it for up to $5 a can on the beach and make extra money to cover his trip. I then exclaimed to him "So, you were the Bandit! I've met the real live Bandit" and that I was going to post this on my facebook as soon as I got back to my hotel. He then went on to explain that he was now a Baptist Minister and his congregation may not like it so I of course promised to leave names out of it. Still. The bandit!
The Bandit claim works for me! I love S&tB. Need to watch it once every couple of years at least. Once of my favourite TV memories was sitting at home on a Saturday night, with prospects slim, and at 9pm S&tB came on followed by S&tB2. I'm not a huge fan of the second, but I was bought in for the vibe of the night alone. We got a long way to go and a short time to get there. Thanks for listening!
