Hi Anthony

Enjoyed your ramble very much, esp as I could completely relate to the bands mentioned, the situations and the general paucity of real communication in this Facebook / Google Plus, etc era we find ourselves in. Like you, I was crazy about Prog rock in the 70's, and did find myself spending lots of time with like minded friends who shared my obsessions with minutiae from album lyrics, cover art, tee shirts, etc...
Funny thing is, despite the passage of over 30 years, when I get together with some of those old friends, we are still able to get excited about stuff we used to talk about way back when, in spite of all the 'adult stuff' we ended up doing to be able to afford all the junk now piled up in our basements and garages!

Just for the record, I'm an old friend of Ken Bole's (aka the Scarborough Dude)...we went to university in Ottawa together, and then both worked in Japan for some years. I ended up moving to Singapore, and now spend my time there or at my place up in northern Thailand, where I am enjoying your podcast this evening.

In any case, I like your angle on social media and am now going to dig through your archives in search of more golden nuggets of sonic goodness!

Cheers Anthony!

Rob,

Thanks for listening and commenting. Nice to know how easily podcasts reach around the world.
We have certainly lost and gained something with social media. We've lost the necessity to go in depth with people, though we've gained the ability to scratch the surface with a greater amount of diverse people. Of course we can always choose to have deeper conversations and relationships with any of these new acquaintances, who has time for that when there's all the social media to keep up on. :-)
Have fun rummaging through the archive!

First time I listen to your podcast and it was great! Yes, the 80's, prog rock, making covers for tapes, I do remember that. I used to listen to music a lot. Yes, I do remember those nights where everyone will listen to one album without talking. We did listen to music. Now, I'm not sure that people really listen to music anymore. They do have a lot of music into their MP3 players, but I think they do more browsing than listening.

By the way, I liked your presentation at the PAB conference. I never saw Almost Famous. Now I want to see it!

Roch,
Almost Famous is the only film I ever watched twice in a row without a break. Made it all the way through the credits and just pressed play again on the DVD. Cameron Crowe has a real feel for soundtrack and maximizes his impact.
Thanks for starting to listen. Hopefully you'll find some other stuff that interests you as well.
