I don't know that I would have posted this had we been on Day 28 of this initiative, but, since it's just starting, people may want to check it out until the new year. Defectivebydesign has started a blitz of 35 reasons why Digital Rights Management practices and policies are often flawed and some of the problems that arise from companies asserting arcane restrictions on technology. Day One deals with one of the most proprietary corporations around: Apple.
You see, we Canadians don't do anything half-assed. When we get charged with spamming violations, it's to the tune of $873 million dollars. That's what social networking's all about, being able to spam everybody's friends at once. Perhaps some of the money could be used to bail out Citibank... it could the new Facebank.
Just brought it in after forgetting it in the glove compartment for a few weeks and thought I would share the sheer lack of effort I put into last month's costumed holiday.
Google has a great new partner in Life Magazine that allows for the magazine's entire photo archive to be searched through Google. Images from the past 150 years and even further back are included. Life photojournalists are second to none in tellling a story through an image. Loving exploring this new archive.
This is so messed up that it should spawn a new saying: "Only in Nebraska." Because Nebraska's law to prevent dumpster babies, by providing parents with safe haven for abandoned children in hospitals, says "child" instead of "infant", people are dumping off their teenage children at hospitals before the loophole is closed.
I don't honestly know who to hate more - the idiot parents, the idiot lawmakers, or the system that allowed for a "mother who dropped off her 18-year-old daughter [and] said she was repeatedly turned down when she sought help from police, state social services authorities and the girl's school. The woman said her daughter had been diagnosed with a mental illness when she was 12 and had deep psychological scars from childhood abuse and from being left alone with her dead biological mother for a week."Welcome to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom!

I've never been one of those people who was hell bent on buying a Vespa and listening to The Jam (even in a Modern World), but this upcoming hybrid scooter from Piaggio looks wicked cool. 141 MPG, 0-60mph in 5 seconds, the power of a 250cc engine, and a dual front tire for added stability.
